two versions
of the same song
could it be that twins
are as convergent
and divergent as this?
could it be that music
was never meant
to emerge from one mouth
one pair of hands
that in its
own telling of the story of itself
it knows no map
to define its journey
follows no signposts
that don't lead away from itself
this song
the words of a man
sung by a man
acccompanied by a man
tell the story of the space
between who we are
and who we wish to be
and then of how
those places
are inseparable
my love to gil's family and friends and admirers who felt his wings as he flew away yesterday
with credits to "smog".
tell the story of the space

i was just busy about trying to understand this.
trying to align what might be between the mind, the body and the soul. i've expectations and hopes of myself and yet my body holds me away from what i rightly know or have learned. and so i live inside of this tension of imperfection, desire to improve. who we are and who we wish to be? - worlds can live between the two.
now i'll listen))

I've been meaning to get back here and comment as I am a fan of the man. I've been thinking of my own memories around "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," since his passing and am glad to be introduced to "I'm New Here." What a moving son, especially given the timing. I also was not aware of Bill Callahan and Smog, so thank you for this. I love finding new music.
ReplyDeleteSad to know Gil is gone, but perhaps he's on his way back....
I meant to add: I really am moved by the words in your last "stanza." So very true.
ReplyDeletehi teresa, i like that "perhaps he's on his way back". thanks for your kind comments. steven
